LIBRARY RESOURCES AT SNARL
Snarl has a small library for visitors to peruse. We have access to an extensive list of on-line journals through the UCSB library and these can be accessed through one of the kiosk computers. Instructions for accessing e-journals are posted in the library in the lab building. We also carry a few older journals which are not available on-line such as The California Fish and Game Reports from the 1940's through late 1960's. On our shelves, we have a number of scientific reference books, field guides and books on the natural history of the area.
The SNARL library also serves as a repository for local land use planning documents and EIRs such as Mammoth Lakes, Bishop, Mono County general plans, the Mammoth Yosemite airport expansion project, geothermal, ski area, golf course developments, and the entire suite of Mono Basin documents. These documents often contain significant compilations of data and are very difficult to locate. Our library resources are cataloged in an endnote file (library.enl) and can be accessed on the kiosk computer. We also have an extensive collection of peer-reviewed journal articles and reports carried out locally and extending throughout the Sierra Nevada Region as well as a collection of theses and dissertations from students who used the reserve during part of their research. This collection is also cataloged (vesr.enl) but items must be signed in and out.
