COMPUTING RESOURCES AT SNARL

General Use - free of charge:

Three Internet and email kiosk computers are available free of charge for general use. Two are located in Headquarters; the third is located in the library in the lab building. These computers are configured for web browsing, checking web based email and telnet access to mail servers. There is no software available on these machines and downloading or installing is strictly prohibited. If others are waiting to gain access to one of the computers, please limit your usage to 15 minutes.

Fee Based Network Services:

SNARL offers server based network services including file serving, network printing and plotting. Two computers are available in the computer room located on level 2 of the Headquarters building. The workstations are equipped with CD burners, scanners (35 mm slide and flatbed) and various software applications. There is also an older (OS 9) IMAC available for general use. Three printers are available for use. A black and white HP 5M Laserjet ($0.07/sheet), a color HP Laserjet 4500 ($0.15/sheet) and an Epson Stylus Pro7600 large format printer (maps, posters, and other similar images: $2.00/sq. ft. fine art and photographs: $4.00/sq. ft.). Ethernet ports for personal computers are available in the offices at Headquarters as well as in the laboratory building. Users need to be set up with a user ID, password, and IP address. SNARL’s computer support specialist is available to support Reserve users on a recharge basis. Rates are as follows:

Network use rate:

$3.00 UC/$5.00 Non-UC per person per day

$40.00 UC/$60.00 Non-UC per seat per month

Computer support rate: $22.00 UC/$32.00 Non-UC per hour

Wireless Access:

Wireless access is available in buildings without cabled infrastructure. We do not run a DHCP server so users will need to contact the Director or Computer Specialist for a user ID, password, and fixed IP address. The daily and monthly network use rates apply.

There is a Fax machine located in the Headquarters building ($0.25/sheet, received or sent) and a photocopier located in the library ($0.05/sheet).
