COMPUTING RESOURCES AT SNARL

General Use:

The fees for your stay at Valentine Camp include basic web connection.  If you have your own desktop or notebook computer, there is no charge for web connectivity.  Wireless access connection is established automatically through DHCP.  Wired access requires issuance of an IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS information.  Contact the Director or Computer Specialist.

Three Internet and email kiosk computers are available free of charge for general use at SNARL. Two are located in Headquarters; the third is located in the library in the lab building. These computers are configured for web browsing, checking web based email.  There is no software available on these machines and downloading or installing is strictly prohibited. If others are waiting to gain access to one of the computers, please limit your usage to 15 minutes.

Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection:

VPN connections require a fixed IP address, which may take up to two business days to be issued.  Please make known your requirement for VPN connection prior to your arrival so arrangements can be made.  Contact the Director or Computer Specialist.

Fee Based Network Services:

SNARL offers server based network services including file serving, network printing and plotting. Two computers are available in the computer room located on level 2 of the Headquarters building. The workstations are equipped with CD burners, scanners (35 mm slide and flatbed) and various software applications.  Three printers are available for use. A black and white HP 5M Laserjet, a color HP Laserjet 4500.  An Epson Stylus Pro 7600 large format printer is available in this year the lab building through Dr. Roland Knapp (maps, posters, and other similar images: $2.00/sq. ft. fine art and photographs: $4.00/sq. ft.).  SNARL’s computer support specialist is available to support Reserve users on a recharge basis.

Faxing, Printing &Copying Rates:

There is a fax machine located in the Headquarters building ($0.25/sheet, received or sent), b/w and color printers in the computer lab ($0.07/sheet b/w, $0.15/sheet color) and a photocopier located in the library ($0.05/sheet).

Wireless access is available in buildings without cabled infrastructure. We do not run a DHCP server so users will need to contact the Director or Computer Specialist for a user ID, password, and fixed IP address. The daily and monthly network use rates apply.
