How to Help

Our mission is to secure adequate resources to develop VESR to its full potential as a University research and teaching facility but also as an important regional resource for information transfer from the University to the public and government agencies; for adult eduation and for K-12 science education.

We have been actively engaged in the pursuit of extramural funds to support VESR since the early 1980's. In 1984 the Reserve was awarded the first of the three National Science Foundation grants it has received to augment facilities at the Reserve. That first grant constructed the dormitory and an addition to the laboratory. Subsequent grants funded the construction of the experimental stream system, the garage, the reconstruction of Headquarters, and the development of our computer network. We will continue to seek such support for facilities in the future.

Recently our focus has been on engaging private parties in our mission and developing support for the core of our community outreach program, the Outdoor Science Education Program. Many generous individuals have come forward and assisted us in our commitment to K-12 science education. Accomplishments to date include the construction of the Valentine Camp Education Center and the underwriting of our school field trip program for Inyo and Mono County students.

If you would like to assist in the support and development of programs at the Reserve, or require more information, please contact the Director or see the links below. Current projects include the development of graduate student fellowships, construction of boardwalks through sensitive habitats, technology improvements, environmental monitoring, resource inventories, distinguished lecturer support, and replacement of aged researcher housing.
